An announcement from the club :”We admit the sanctions passed by the FA to Jordan Stevens after a breach of betting regulations.
“We will encourage Jordan during this procedure, he is a young footballer who requires teaching on the risks of external influences and how to conduct himself as a professional footballer.
“As a team we believe that attacking a 19-year-old footballer from participating in practice or interacting with the club staff is an excessive punishment.”
Leeds’ chief executive Angus Kinnear stated:”Although we fully recognise the significance of this FA’s part in safeguarding the integrity of the game, we are hugely disappointed at the FA’s selection of sanction.
“To avoid a young footballer from taking part in any football activities at this critical period of the career is a disproportionate punishment after a foolish mistake by a young player.
“We are particularly disappointed that the sanction was determined by two former professional footballers that we hoped would have had a better comprehension of the effects of their decision.”
