Australia opener Cameron Bancroft is to return to Durham for the 2020 season after having a huge impression.
The 26-year-old, that opened in the first two Ashes Tests for his country that summer after starting the 2019 effort at Durham, will spend the summer at the Emirates Riverside and be open to play all three formats of this
After operating a ban from the game for his participation from the 2018 scandal wicketkeeper-batsman Bancroft’s arrival at Durham was questioned in some quarters.
However, Bancroft captained Durham in both the Specsavers County Championship along with Royal London One-Day Cup this season, scoring 726 runs in an average of 45.37 from the four-day game and adding 377 more in 94.25 from the 50-over format.
He had been also called to Australia’s Ashes team however suffered a difficult time on responsibility, scoring eight and seven in the first Test at Edgbaston and 13 and 16 at the next at Lord’s before losing his place.
Durham’s director of cricket Marcus North explained:”We’re thrilled to welcome Cameron back to Emirates Riverside to our 2020 year old.
“He’s had a huge impact on the area together with his direction and undoubted quality through his performances.
“Cameron has had an impact from the area as an ambassador for the team with lots of community projects.”
